Flooded Cellar Cleared and Non Return Valve Advised on Carr Road, Burnley
A Burnley cellar was flooding internally, put down to hydraulic flooding on a surface water line. First job was suction, to get the water out of the cellar so we could see what we were dealing with.
Then we went looking for the downstream access. The customer remembered a buried manhole behind the property, so we broke through the tarmac to reach it. It turned out to be foul, not surface water. We checked the main sewer and the surrounding area for where the cellar gully could run to, and found nothing.
We jetted and used suction to restore the flow in the cellar gully, and advised fitting a non return valve in the cellar as soon as possible. Without one, the next heavy rain can put the water straight back.
